Om Shanti Om - Hindi Movie Review
After a long time, i got to see a hindi movie...This movie looked as if it was taken in 1980s. I slowly realized that the movie is set in that time, so no wonder, to enfforce the reality, the director has made the costumes and characters to suite that era...
In india, this movie has grossed Rs.85 crores ($22 Million) in 6 weeks. Worldwide, its grosss is $39 million....
Watch Arjun Rampal in a very different type of role...Unfortunately, his charm / charisma is lost in the character...

Eggnog - The Nog part in the Name.
On the christmas day, i was fortunate in being a part of the American Family. All of us had eggnog when a inquisitive boy asked his Mom where the What the Nog in eggnog meant? I wondered why i never asked that question in particular and such questions in general. The tools that i have access to (e.g. Wiki, google) should have made me more inquisitive than ever. But I/it failed.
Coming to the point, Eggnog (or egg nog) is a sweetened dairy-based beverage made with milk, cream, sugar, beaten eggs (which gives it a frothy texture), and flavoured with ground cinnamon and nutmeg; alcoholic versions also exist with the addition of various liquors, such as rum, brandy, or whisky.
2 different NOG Story
1. The drink adopted the NOG part of its name from the word noggin, a Middle English phrase used to describe a small, wooden, carved mug used to serve alcohol in.
2. Yet another story is that the term derived from the name egg-and-grog, a common Colonial term used to describe rum. Eventually the term was shortened to egg'n'grog, then eggnog.

I Love Apple
Tom hanks says in Forrest Gump "He got me invested in some kinda fruit company.” referring to Apple
Imagine Apple stores no longer have Cash Registers. Each store conceirge (note the word!) has a portable scanner in their hip holster, Receipts are e-mailed on the spot or, if the customer prefers, a paper version emerges from printers hidden underneath display tables.
"We try to pattern the feeling to a 5-star hotel," said Apple's retail chief, Ron Johnson. "It's not about selling. It's about creating a place where you belong."
I cant imagine Apple has innovated so much that it offers the following:
"For $99 a year, a customer gets up to one hour a week to learn about a wide-range of subjects tailored to the customer's interest or abilities. The program is for beginners and experts alike and can cover how to set up computers, make movies, build Web sites or put together a scrapbook or family newsletter."

Slow Down Culture
A GOOD ARTICLE. READ UNTIL THE END.
An interesting reflection: Slow Down Culture
It's been 18 years since I joined Volvo, a Swedish
company. Working for
them has proven to be an interesting experience. Any
project here takes 2
years to be finalized, even if the idea is simple
and brilliant. It's a
rule.
Globalize processes have caused in us (all over the
world) a general sense
of searching for immediate results. Therefore, we
have come to posses a
need to see immediate results. This contrasts
greatly with the slow
movements of the Swedish. They, on the other hand,
debate, debate, debate,
hold x quantity of meetings and work with a
slowdown scheme. At the end,
this always yields better results.
Said in another words:
1. Sweden is about the size of
San Pablo, a state in Brazil.
2. Sweden has 2 million
inhabitants.
3. Stockholm, has 500,000 people.
4. Volvo, Escania, Ericsson,
Electrolux, Nokia are some
of its renowned companies (Volvo supplies the
NASA).
The first time I was in Sweden, one of my
colleagues picked me up at the
hotel every morning. It was September, bit cold and
snowy. We would arrive
early at the company and he would park far away
from the entrance (2000
employees drive their car to work). The first day, I
didn't say anything,
either the second or third. One morning I asked,
"Do you have a fixed
parking space? I've noticed we park far from the
entrance even when there
are no other cars in the lot." To which he replied,
"Since we're here early
we'll have time to walk, and whoever gets in late
will be late and need a
place closer to the door. Don't you think so? Imagine
my face.
Nowadays, there's a movement in Europe named
Slow Food. This movement
establishes that people should eat and drink
slowly, with enough time to
taste their food, spend time with the family,
friends, without rushing.
Slow Food is against its counterpart: the spirit of
Fast Food and what it
stands for as a lifestyle. Slow Food is the basis
for a bigger movement
called Slow Europe, as mentioned by Business Week.
Basically, the movement
questions the sense of "hurry" and craziness"
generated by globalization,
fueled by the desire of "having in quantity" (life
status) versus "having
with quality", "life quality" or the quality of
being".
French people, even though they work only 35
hours per week, are more
productive than Americans or British. Germans
have established 29 hour
workweeks and have seen their productivity been driven
up by 20%. This slow
attitude has brought forth the US's attention,
pupils of the fast and the
"do it now!". This no-rush attitude doesn't represent
doing less or having
a lower productivity. It means working and
doing things with greater
quality, perfection, with more attention to
detail and less stress. It
means reducing rejects and wastage. It means
reestablishing family values,
friends, free and leisure time. Taking the "now",
present and concrete,
versus the "global", undefined and anonymous
future. It means taking
humans' essential values, the simplicity of living.
It stands for a less
coercive work environment, more happy, lighter and
more productive where
humans enjoy doing what they know best how to do.
It's time to stop and think on how companies
need to develop serious
quality with no-rush that will increase
productivity and the quality of
products and services, without losing the essence of
spirit.
In the movie, Scent of a Woman, there's a scene where
Al Pacino asks a girl
to dance and she replies, "I can't, my boyfriend
will be here any minute
now". To which Al responds, "A life is lived in
an instant". Then they
dance to a tango.
Many of us live our lives running behind time, but we
only reach it when we
die of a heart attack or in a car accident rushing
to be on time. Others
are so anxious of living the future that they forget
to live the present,
which is the only time that truly exists. We all have
equal time throughout
the world. No one has more or less. The difference
lies in how each one of
us does with our time. We need to live each moment.
As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens to you
while you're busy making
other plans".
Congratulations for reading till the end of this
message. There are many
who will have stopped in the middle so as not
to waste time in this
globalized world.

Vijay's Bold Move
Vijay has been showing off his bodies since a long time, but most of them in bed room / bath room / swimming pool scenes and that time, noone was bothered looking at his body with special focus (for all known reasons). But now with Azgagiya Tamil Magan, he is showing off his body as a HERO in the ranks of Rocky and Terminator.
I was amazed looking at Shahrukh's body with OSM (On Shanti Om). I think he has put in a lot of hours in Gym....even with his back problem. Shame on me, that i am not doing 1% of what he is doing or what i can do...
Anyway, look at some of our heroes in the same light....Vijay needs improvement, or atleast some good photographer.

Invitation to Yama....
I have been making mistakes knowingly....Not a good sign at all and behaviour needs to be changed immediately....I guess i am waiting for some magic to happen....I will let you know when the MAJIC does HAPPEN....
Mistakes in no specific order:
1. Not running at all
2. Not doing any form of excercise
3. Not keeping track of the personal balanced score card
4. Eating Sweets
5. Eating as i like with absoluely no restrictions
6. Mercurial more than usual
I could partly blame some of these to the shifting my house from Parkhill Apartment to Whispering Creek Villas...But how many more days can i say this reason to be bad....

My Friend Says...
I read this very interesting para in ET - when we look at the burning candle what we notice is a constant flame. We think the flame is just there and the candle is burning down. But in reality as the wax melts the wick gets exposed and the new flame engulfs the old flame. The flame is constantly changing. its not the same steady flame. I found immense sense in that.

"satisfaction" is a state of mind
i am thinking about this line that my friend mentioned.
Another friend narrates his story:
satisfaction is very personal. beleive me some time back i was in
bangalore trying to locate a pizza hut and i was sort of frustrated as
i could not locate it and i was adament about having a 250 bucks of
pizza. while hunting for it i just went to a shop near by to find out
about the Pizza hut. In that shop I saw 2 school kids (may be) buying
chikki . Man after they bought it they were so happy. By their looks
they seem not to be doing financially well, but seeing thier happiness
with what we call "Just a chikki" really killed me and forget Tag Huer
or wht ever we are talking or geox. That day i realised satisfaction is
based on our circumstances and how we are placed in life and it will
keep changing.

To Stay Motivated is a Blessing
When i ran 50 miles in Aug 2007 and 60 miles in Sep 2007, i raised my target to 100 miles. I stayed motivated. But the blessing was taken away from me and i am put to test. I have lost my motivation and it is very difficult for me to get motivated to run. I have lost the blessing. I have run only 15 miles till date in Oct 2007.
God, Bless me and Help me to stay motivated to run 50 miles in Oct and 100 miles in November.

Focus on making money Vs Focus on spending money
With all the stock market bull run and increase in property prices by multiple folds, my friends are seriously discussing on when to buy, what to buy and how to make a lot of money. I am seeing that they spend all their energy on how to make more and more money. I am yet to come across people who focus on how to spend the money in the most enjoyable way. Having seen them for over 10 years in my life, i do not see any great shift in their life style to be in line with their affordability and richness. They still drive their 5 year old car (not a high end model), they still live in normal houses, they still eat the same kind of food, they still slog 12 hours a day in work, their minds are still preoccupied with work during weekends, they still fight, they still feel depressed, they still dont travel as much they can afford to, .... and the list goes on and on. Can someone start talking about how to live life with all the money earned....
some of my thoughts (may not be apt for everyone as each has their priority)
1. Good massage every week
2. Good attire and personal grooming
3. Hitech gadgets at home
4. Good Vacation every year(Tahiti,my dream place now)
5. Cruises every year
6. Visit new place every quarter

Where is my motivation??
I think the motivation to run has run away from me. I am not running for the last 4 days.
I think the culprit is my ipod. My nike+ipod kit is not working. I am planning to return my ipod and get a new one (the 4 gm video ipod) and may be a new nike ipod kit. Hopefully, if it works, i may get back the motivation.

Food that brought joy ...
Though we keep trying different kinds of new food, it is very rare for a food to give us utmost joy and make us feel bad that we missed this food till now in life.
After coming to US from India, i have tried various types of food, primary mexican, in addition to italian, chinese, thai and vietnamese. Of all these, the one that gave me utmost joy is 'Five Layer Dip". This is available in HEB, and the five layer consists of Bean, Tomato Salsa, Guacamole, Sour cream and Cheese.

I Hate Running
Do i love running? Of course, not. I hate it. But why do i do it?
I do it because the pain i will beget by not doing is more than the pain i get by doing it.
I love to sit in front of TV and watch thriller or lost or Desperate Housewives all my life and eat all the nice and fat food and be fat. Who cares. But that is not good for me.
What makes me feel good is not always good for me. Not everything that is good for me always feels good for me.

2. Shade in the Balcony 24X7 due to trees, place is always cool and we enjoy sitting there
3. Easy access for me to run on streets (my next month target is 100 miles)
4. Its closer to office by 1 mile compared to the "Whispering Creek Villas".
5. As we are in 2nd floor, it gives a good view of the outside.
Parkhill Minus
1. The place has been used for over 5 years without anyone cleaning or painting the place and it is not neat
2. Closet is small
"Whispering Creek Villas". Plus
Neat and clean house
Bigger house compared to parkhill
Bigger and more closets (2 closets)
I can fix my HDTV on wall
I can keep a large fish tank
I can keep nice home theater system
I can make the place beautiful with new furnishings
"Whispering Creek Villas". Minus
1. Street Running is not possible, as the road does not have pavement
2. No Balcony in house and the patio faces the Sun from 12 noon till sunset, so i cant sit outside home except in morning, and even when i sit, i cant have a slider door open
3. The view in front of the house is not great, it has parking place right in front of the house
4. No storage outside the house, to keep shoe rack
5. Rent is $450 more than what i am paying now
I need to make a decision to move or not before this month end (3 more days to go). SOS.

Addicted to Diet Coke
I am stopping diet coke for 7 days from today. Let me see if i can do it.
I have been thinking if drinking what i want is freedom or ability to stop drinking when i want is freedom. Help me understand.
Updating on Nov 2008
----READ THIS------
I have been getting sore throat very often these days that anything cold i drink triggers the sore throat. It becomes so bad, that i am afraid to drink anything cold. So i have stopped drinking diet coke. So, if someone can sell a medicine that can trigger throat pain if you drink anything cold, then you will stop drinking soda.

Home for rent
My home in bangalore is available for rent. We finished the house warming last week. The home has come out beautiful. We have furnished the kitchen with faber modules. Hmm...Its modular kitchen with water proof materials. It has a stove andd chimney. We have also made provision for the gas cylinder to be kept outside on the utility area, so the kitchen store space looks posh. We have also put some lights inside the woodwork, neatly done and posh.
The bedroom has a wardrobe and dressing mirror and table. Another bedroom has a godrej bero. The home is on the 1st floor and east facing house. You can see the swimming pool and play area from the beautiful large balcony. The home has 2 balconies, interlinked. One from bedroom and one from living room. The person who is going to get this on rent will be lucky :)
The address of the property is

Rajagopal is one of my friend, who inspired me during my early career. Now i am unable to reach him, he used to have a company called compact packaging, based out of pondicherry. He used to tell me the following and i have tried to practice is whenever i can. I am going to use this for getting a six pack ab.
"Vividly imagine,
Ardently desire,
Sincerely believe and

How can i carry water while running
I was feeling dehydrated when i started running on the streets. I was so tired that i wanted to come home. But then, another runner told me that i could walk into one of the bar and deink some water. I did that, but was feeling a little embarrased. When i asked Alex Vera on how i can solve this issue (Alex guides me on many of my running stuff, as he is a good runner and training for marathon). Alex suggeted that i could buy a camel backpack that can hold water. He said that it should cost around $40. I was thinking of buying that for sometime now...but i was worried about carrying that on my back and also how i would clean it.
Today when i was taking my son on a stroller for a small walk, i saw a couple running and the lady had a belt that had packets for storing 2 bottles and place to keep her ipod shuffle and key pouch. So i started searching net for a product like that. I could not find the exact one, but the one in this link is closer to it.

Canon Digital Camera Problem with LCD panel
I visited Niagara and Newyork for the labor day weekend. My canon camera decided to let me down at this important moment. The camera's LCD panel for viewing was showing some lines and not the object in front of it. I thought that the camera is dead and that i needed to replace it. This morning, i was reading some review for new canon cameras and then also visited the Canon Help site for this issue and i found this help. Canon seems to be a great company. They are repairing this kind of mistake, irrespective of warranty status.
Issue: The LCD/Electronic Viewfinder will not display an image or the image is distorted.
Solution: Special information regarding a blank or distorted screen on certain digital camera modelsDetails: [ Hide ]
Important Notice About Your Canon Product:
It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.
U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to carecenter@cits.canon.com
This information is for residents of the United States of America and Puerto Rico only. If you do not reside in the USA or Puerto Rico, please contact the Canon Customer Support Center in your region.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue, and appreciate your understanding in this matter. Thank you for your support and patronage of Canon products.

Tandem Cycle and Diving
How can you better spend a saturday than to fulfill your long cherished dream.
We picked up a tandem cycle and child trailer from Bicycle Sports shop in Austin
http://bicyclesportshop.com/page.cfm?PageID=749
We rode the bike on the bike trail around barton springs. The trail is just 2 blocks away from the shop. It was a pleasure to ride. I initially thought i could put Rishi (my son) on a baby carrier and wrap him on my body. But i had to bend so much to ride the bike, that the rental agency suggested that i rent a trailer. The ride was smooth.
After finishing the ride, we returned the bike and went to Barton Springs. All 3 of us had a good time in the pool. I was made to believe from some website that the pool here is at 68 degrees always. But it was very chill. Rishi had a good time in the pool, but i could not stand inside as i started to shiver. Soon i will take him to some indoor pool and teach him swimming.

Kavitha creating Record
Going to Gym has been a difficult task. Motivation to go to Gym was partly created by seeing half the movie at home and seeing the second half in gym, that way, running 2 miles a day was quite easy. Now taking the motivation to next level, Kavitha ran in the morning and in the evening....for the first time, hoping to continue the trend in the coming days :-)

Motivated by Lance Armstrong
I have been running with nike+ shoes with the nike+ipod kit for the last 5 days. I used to run a maximum of 2 miles in gym 3-4 months ago. After coming back from india in June end, my motivation to go to gym reduced and then my excitement on nike + ipod grew. So i decided to buy one. With that, today i ran my first 5 miles...actually 5.4 miles....

Sai Narain and inspiring team creating village BPO
I had a 2 year senior by name sai narain. He joined Citibank just after college (MBA) like 10 others in his batch. I am inspired that he has left his job and started sai seva, a rural BPO. Its client include Royal Sundaram insurance, HDFC etc. His logic is that villagers who have got education should not be forced to migrate to cities leaving their families. They should remain in village and help parents in all ways and also work in accordance to their education. There are business reasons as well....Cost per seat is less and attrition will be almost negligible compared to cities.

Early Retirement
The concept of early retirement was very tempting to me at some point in time. That meant a lot of free time and freedon to do what i want to do. That meant, i need to work hard and earn fast to reach the financial goal. A few of my friends were in the same race. In fact, there was one of my friend who was passionate about this idea and planned on where he would stay, with whom he would stay, who would be his neighbours. He was also pretty good in his work, and he started earning 4-5 times compared to his classmates.
Pros to Retirement life (Cons of a work life)
1. You dont have to keep alarm to wake up. You can get up whenever your body wakes up from sleep.
2. You dont have to skip breakfast to rush to office
3. You dont have to dress yourself up, if you desire not to
4. You dont have to eat a fast lunch, just because you only have a 30 minute break between 2 meetings for your lunch
5. You can go to bookstore and browse books whenever you need to and however long you need to
6. You can see movies anytime, any shows back to back
7. You dont have to walk faster than usual just because you may be late for the 1PM meeting
8. You dont have to go in 30 miles per hour when the speed limit is 25 miles per hour inside the campus
9. You dont have to make a moving stop inside the office campus / apartment on STOP signs
10. You have all the time in the world.
Cons to retired life (Pros for work life)
1. You dont make money
2. You dont have professional challenges
3. Opportunity for new friendship is restricted
Best of Both the worlds
What if, you have a work where you dont have to go early in the day, dont have to work 8 hours, dont have to give your best each day, dont have to stress out physically or intellectually or emotionally.
What if, you are not accountable to anyone for what you do, dont have to worry for not showing upto meetings or showing up late to meetings.
What if, you are so cool, that you stop completely on all stop signs, look all the 4 sides and leisurely drive, never overtake any vehicle, change lanes just to reach destination faster,
What if, you can wait in the car to listen to the song completely after you park.
What if, you can go and workout in Gym during office hours, so that there is less rush in gym and go to movies
What if, you can just bunk one day and dont feel that you missed something in office or someone needed you badly
What if, after doing all the above, you are considered important in your work. What if, you get a good rating and good salary.
What if, you can sleep for 3 hours in the afternoon after a Sumptious meal on a work day.
What if, you lead a retirement life when you work!!!
