I visited Niagara and Newyork for the labor day weekend. My canon camera decided to let me down at this important moment. The camera's LCD panel for viewing was showing some lines and not the object in front of it. I thought that the camera is dead and that i needed to replace it. This morning, i was reading some review for new canon cameras and then also visited the Canon Help site for this issue and i found this help. Canon seems to be a great company. They are repairing this kind of mistake, irrespective of warranty status.

Important Notice About Your Canon Product:
It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

I just returned from Sam's Club where I had intended to purchase a new camera to replace the three year old Powershot A75 that I own that had a black LCD screen. But, first I called Canon (1-800-828-4040) and was told that all I had to do was provide the operator with my name and address and the serial number on the camera, and Canon would e-mail me the label for free UPS service to return the product for repair. I was further advised that the service work would be accomplished in 7-10 business days from receipt of the camera at Canon.
I'm an old military officer, and we often are less than amused at the shabby products, repair history and service of civilian contractors and vendors. Canon is obviously an extreme exception to this notion. I'm going to buy another camera eventually. It will definitely be a Canon.
I also called canon helpline and they mailed me the UPS label. I have sent my old camera and they will be replacing the same with a new canon A530 camera. I think this camera is not sold in target or walmart. May be its a old model, but the spec is 5.1 mega pixel with 4x zoom, surely better than the one they are replacing for. Hope this canon product is as great and reliable as the old one i had.
lucky you..I live in Canada and canon told me to mail in camera at my expense and they'll let me know the cost to repair it.
I'll bookmark this article right away.
